Exercises for Cervical Spondylitis

Cervical spondylitis is a medical term that refers to the wear and tear in the spinal disk of the neck or the ligaments in the neck or cervical spine. It is a condition that worsens with age and affects nearly 85% of the population over the age of 60.

In mild cases, those affected by cervical spondylitis experience almost no symptoms. As the condition worsens, people can experience pain and stiffness in the neck. To effectively manage the symptoms and reduce the pain, you can do simple exercises and take up physiotherapy treatments for cervical spondylosis. Here are some exercise suggestions for you

Neck Stretch

  1. Keep your body straight and push your chin forward such that it stretched the throat
  2. Stay this way for up to 5 seconds and return to the centre position
  3. Again, push your chin forward, but tilt your head back this time
  4. Repeat this exercise five times

Forward Neck Tilt

  1. Tilt your head forward such a way that your chin touches your chest
  2. Stiffen your muscles and hold the position for 5 seconds
  3. Return your head to the centre position
  4. Repeat this exercise five times

Sideways Neck Tilt

  1. Tilt your head to lean your head on your shoulder
  2. Stiffen your muscles and hold the position for 5 seconds
  3. Return to the centre position and repeat the movement on the other side
  4. Repeat the exercise five times

Neck Turn

  1. Turn your head to one side as far as you can do it without hurting yourself
  2. Stiffen your muscles and hold the position for 5 seconds
  3. Return to the centre position and repeat the movement on the other side
  4. Repeat the exercise five times

Performing these exercises daily can alleviate symptoms such as stiffness and mild pain. In extreme cases of pain, it is advised to meet a professional doctor to consider your options.
